6 Steps Involved In Making of Glass Wafers

Posted by MSE Supplies Admin on

Glass wafers are round pieces of precision glass used in various technical and industrial applications. Glass wafer is made using the finest quality glass material. Therefore, it is vital to choose the best glass sheet as the wafers are taken from these sheets.

To begin the fabrication process, high-quality sheet glass material is selected, and then the wafer is carefully shaped via cutting and grinding processes and then further machined to create the wafer’s edge profile and to detail, followed by finishing processes such as lapping and polishing to create optimal wafer shape. Finally, each wafer is subjected to a highly controlled inspection process using precision laser measuring equipment to gauge total thickness variation and make sure it is within accepted tolerances.
