Overview
A Dynamic Mechanical Analyzer (DMA) is an advanced instrument used to study the viscoelastic properties of materials. By applying a sinusoidal force to a sample and measuring its deformation, the DMA provides insights into a material's mechanical behavior as a function of temperature, frequency, or time. It is widely used for analyzing properties such as modulus, damping, glass transition temperature, and viscoelastic behavior in polymers, composites, metals, and other materials. This makes it an essential tool in materials research, quality control, and product development.
Our DMA can study storage modulus, loss modulus, loss factor (glass transition temperature), stress relaxation, creep, compression resistance, bending resistance, thermal shrinkage, and stress release processes.
Sample Requirements
Samples must be in the form of solid blocks or films. Please refer to the dimensions of the fixtures below and confirm with the project manager before placing an order:
-
Single Cantilever Fixture:
- Length: 30mm (minimum 10mm, maximum 60mm)
- Width: 8mm (no minimum, maximum 15mm)
- Thickness: 3mm (no minimum, maximum 5mm)
-
Dual Cantilever Fixture:
- Length: 60mm (minimum 25mm, maximum 60mm)
- Width: 8mm (no minimum, maximum 15mm)
- Thickness: 3mm (no minimum, maximum 5mm)
-
Three-Point Bending Fixture:
- Length: 50mm (minimum 25mm, maximum 60mm)
- Width: 10mm (no minimum, maximum 15mm)
- Thickness: 5mm (no minimum, maximum 10mm)
-
Tensile Fixture:
- Length: 20mm (minimum 5mm, maximum 40mm)
- Width: 5mm (no minimum, maximum 10mm)
- Thickness: 2mm (no minimum, maximum 5mm)
-
Compression Fixture:
- For large sample plates: Diameter <30mm, with smooth and flat top and bottom surfaces.
- For small sample plates: Diameter <10mm, with smooth and flat top and bottom surfaces.
-
Shear Fixture:
- Cubic samples with each side 10mm and thickness of approximately 2mm (two samples required per test).
The test results depend on the selected fixture and the sample's properties. Please choose the fixture carefully. It is recommended to send three identical specimens per sample. Powder and brittle samples cannot be tested.
