The MSE PRO™ 2-Chloro-4-nitrophenyl-α-D maltotrioside (2CNP) is a colorimetric substrate for alpha-amylase.Hydrolysis by alpha-amylase releases 2-chloro-4-nitrophenol, which can be quantified by 405 nm colorimetric detection as a measure of enzyme activity. This compound has been used to characterize human pancreatic or salivary amylase activity, and also inhibits alpha-amylase and other enzymes involved in carbohydrate metabolism, leading to glycogen accumulation and lowering blood glucose levels. Soluble in water and ethanol.
