The MSE PRO™ Isonicotinic acid is also known as pyridine-4-carboxylic acid. The substance smells, can sublimate, the appearance of white needle-like crystals slightly soluble in cold water, soluble in hot water, insoluble in alcohol, benzene, ether. It is an amphoteric compound, soluble in both acids and bases. Soluble in hot water and ethanol, slightly soluble in cold water and ether. Stable to heat and oxidation. Isonicotinic acid is a metabolite of isoniazid. Isoniazid is converted to isonicotinic acid by hydrazinolysis, and the bioconversion of isoniazid to isonicotinic acid can also be catalyzed by cytochrome P450 (CYP) enzymes (e.g., CYP2C).

Applications:
Isonicotinic acid is a widely used intermediate, mainly as a raw material for first-line antituberculosis drugs such as isoniazid (remifentan), terfenadine and isonicotinic acid ester, but also as an anti-corrosive agent, plating additive, photopolymerizing resin stabilizer, PVC heat stabilizer, and non-ferrous metal flotation agent.
