The MSE PRO™ Papain is a mercapto protease extracted from papaya latex. It has a molecular weight of 23 kDa and an optimal pH range of 6.0-7.0.The action of papain on leucine methyl ester produces an insoluble polyleucine peptide. Papain disrupts the intercellular matrix of cartilage. Papain is activated by cysteine, sulfide and sulfite. Stabilizers are EDTA, cysteine and dimercaptoethanol.

Applications:
It can be used to cleave peptide bonds of basic amino acids, leucine or glycine, and can hydrolyze esters and amides. It has also been used to break down tissues in primary cell culture preparations.
