Applications:

Samarium oxide (Sm2O3) nanoparticles are highly thermally stable and they are suitable for glass, optic, ceramic, catalytic applications, solar cells, nanoelectronics, semiconductor gases and biochemical sensors. Within the nanoscaled form, amine functionalised-Sm2O3 nanobelts exhibit an improve of the electrochemical and optical properties of conducting and non-conducting polymers such as polypyrrole and poly ethylene oxide. Nano-sized Sm2O3 particles can improve on the microhardness as well as the wear and corrosion resistance properties of Nickel-based alloy coatings. Numerous accounts of the role of Sm3+ in heterogenous catalysis, phosphors for luminescent devices, medical diagnostics and therapeutic ends have been reported.
