Thermogravimetric Analysis - Differential Scanning Calorimetry (TGA-DSC) Analytical Service
SKU: TGADSC002
Overview
TG stands for Thermogravimetric Analysis, abbreviated as TGA. Thermogravimetric Analysis is a thermal analysis technique that measures the relationship between the mass of a sample and temperature changes under programmed temperature control. It is used to study the thermal stability and composition of materials.
DSC stands for Differential Scanning Calorimetry. During a programmed temperature process (heating, cooling, isothermal, or combinations thereof), it measures the heat flow difference between the sample and a reference material, characterizing all physical and chemical changes related to thermal effects.
In practical material analysis, these two methods are often combined for comprehensive thermal analysis (commonly called TG-DSC comprehensive thermal analysis). This allows for thorough and accurate material analysis, where thermogravimetric and differential thermal information can be simultaneously obtained from the same sample in a single measurement.
Testing Procedure
-
Power On
Turn on the main unit and computer power. Launch the testing software, activate the protective gas, and open the gas cylinder valve. Allow the system to preheat for 2–3 hours before starting the test. -
Baseline Testing (Buoyancy Effect Correction)
Test the baseline according to the actual test conditions of the sample. Click on "File" in the measurement software menu and select "New," then choose the "Correction" measurement mode and set the required conditions as prompted. Save the baseline file for future use. -
Sample Testing
- (1) Place an empty crucible on the balance to weigh and tare it, then add the sample into the crucible and record the sample weight.
- (2) Load the baseline file from Step 2, select "Correction + Sample" as the measurement type, enter the sample ID, name, and weight, open the correction file, set the temperature program, and initialize the working conditions before starting the test.
- (3) Set the testing atmosphere: This machine can test samples in either an inert gas or air environment. When testing in an inert gas environment, evacuate the furnace chamber and replace it with an inert gas.
-
Power Off
Once the furnace has cooled to room temperature, close the gas cylinder valve, wait for the pressure displayed on the pressure-reducing valve to reach zero, then turn the output adjustment knob to the zero position. Close the gas control switch in the software. Finally, turn off the main unit, water bath, and computer. Ensure all valves are closed after shutdown.
