1-Ethyl-3-methylimidazolium chloride (C6H11N2Cl, [EMIM]Cl) is an organic salt. Its unique properties, such as low vapor pressure, thermal stability and high ionic conductivity, make it a suitable solvent for various organic reactions. EMICl can also be used to prepare aluminum chloride-EMIC, zinc chloride-EMIC, and EMIC/tetrafluoroborate molten salts for electrodeposition studies, as well as for cellulose processing.
