BGO Scintillator Description
Bismuth Germanate scintillation crystal (Bi4Ge3O12 or BGO scintillator) is one of the most widely used scintillation materials of the oxide type. It has high atomic number and density values. BGO is mechanically strong enough, rugged, non- hygroscopicity, and has no cleavage .BGO has an extreme high density of 7.13 g /cm3 and has a high Z value which makes these crystals very suitable for the detection of natural radioactivity (U, Th, K).
BGO Scintillation Crystal has an emission peak of 480 nm, coupling well with PMT and SiPM. Compared to other scintillation crystals, BGO has an unparalleled absorption rate at photopeak. Its energy resolution is about 10%. The scintillation characteristics of BGO changes linearly with temperature. Combined with digital signal processing (DSP), it can work under harsh conditions. With small volume, it can work stably under refrigeration.
