SOC broth is a type of growth medium used primarily in microbiology, particularly for the recovery and growth of bacteria, including those transformed with plasmids. "SOC" stands for "Super Optimal Broth with Catabolite Repression," and it is specifically designed to enhance the recovery of E. coli cells after transformation.

Uses

• Transformation Recovery: SOC broth is commonly used after bacterial cells have been subjected to a transformation procedure, such as heat shock or electroporation. It helps the cells recover from the stress of the transformation process and improves their viability and efficiency in taking up and expressing plasmid DNA.
• Bacterial Growth: It supports the growth of E. coli and other bacteria, promoting higher cell densities and better yields of plasmid DNA or recombinant proteins.
