MSE PRO 13mm Dry Pellet Pressing Die for FTIR KBr Pellet Preparation Without Demoulding
SKU: PR0109
13mm (12.7 mm, actual) Dry Pellet Pressing Die for FTIR KBr Pellet Preparation Without Demoulding
This dry pellet pressing die is specially designed to create pellets of potassium bromide (KBr) for use in infrared spectroscopy. Compared with the traditional pressing die, die demoulding is not required after the sample press. The sample on the sample holder mold can be directly placed in the instrument for measurements. This can effectively avoid the pellet breaks due to handling.
The die is made from high quality, high hardness tungsten carbide, which ensures a successful compression of both ceramic and metal powders into pellet form.
Not using enough powdered mixture or or excess moisture in KBr can cause the pellets break. For a typical pellet preparation, 400 mg total KBr/sample mixture under a load of 6 to 7 tons press will produce an approximately 1 to 1.5 mm thick pellet. Usually 0.1 to 2% weight to weight of sample to KBr is preferred for pellet pressing. Please use spectroscopic grade KBr or halide salt powder for the best quality pellets.
In order to grind the desired materials into the correct granularity of powder (from millimeters to microns), we recommend using either our powder processing ball milling products & accessories or our agate mortar & pestle sets.
To avoid rust, store the pressing die set in a dry environment and clean after each use. If you do not intend to use for an extended period of time, it is recommended to apply some oil on the pressing die surfaces to avoid the formation of rust. MSE Supplies is not responsible for rust or damage caused by improper use. Please inspect the pressing die upon arrival. Pressing dies are considered consumables, the warranty only covers manufacturing defects.
Pressing die is considered as consumables which is not covered by warranty.
