MSE PRO™ MES Monohydrate
The MSE PRO™ MES monohydrate, an amphoteric N-substituted sulfamic acid Good's buffer, is of great importance as an organic acid and is a widely used buffer in biochemical and physiological research. This versatile compound plays a variety of roles in laboratory experiments and biological systems. MES monohydrate has a wide range of applications in scientific research, including protein purification, enzyme assays, and cell culture media. MES monohydrate is preferred for protein purification due to its low ionic strength and ability to effectively regulate the pH of solutions. Enzyme assays benefit from MES monohydrate because it helps maintain a stable pH in the reaction mixture. In addition, in cell culture media, MES monohydrate serves to maintain pH and provide buffering for cultured cells.
The amphoteric nature of MES monohydrate, which combines a positively charged morpholine group with a negatively charged ethanesulfonic acid group, allows it to act as a reliable buffer in biological systems. Its unique charge distribution allows it to bind to both positively and negatively charged molecules, ensuring a constant pH even in the presence of acid or base molecules. In addition, MES monohydrate has specific applications in protein crystallography, acting as a buffer. It is also a suitable electrophoresis buffer for resolving small proteins (e.g. 13 kDa) on bis-tris gels. In addition, it serves as a biological buffer in plant cell cultures to promote optimal growth conditions. Combined with malonic acid for fluorescent probe analysis, it can be used as a model system for plant metabolism and redox potential. The compound has also been shown to inhibit bacterial growth by binding to bacterial ribosomes.
