MSE PRO™ Papain, Suspension

The MSE PRO™ Papain is a low-specific protein hydrolyzing enzyme contained in papaya, widely found in the roots, stems, leaves and fruits of papaya, with the highest abundance in immature latex. It is a cysteine protease consisting of a single polypeptide chain containing three disulfide bonds and a sulfhydryl group. It breaks down proteins in acidic, neutral and alkaline environments. Slightly hygroscopic, soluble in water and glycerol, the aqueous solution is colorless or light yellow, sometimes creamy white. Almost insoluble in organic solvents such as ethanol, chloroform and ether. Papain is a kind of peptide chain endonuclease containing sulfhydryl (-SH), with the activity of protease and esterase, with a wide range of specificity, on animal and plant proteins, peptides, esters, amides and so on have strong hydrolysis ability, but almost can not decompose peptone.

Applications:

Papain cleaves peptide bonds of basic amino acids, leucine or glycine. It can also hydrolyze esters and amides. Papain is commonly used in cell separation operations . Papaya Emulsion Papain has antifungal activity against Candida albicans. In immunology, is used to cleave apart Fc fragments (crystallizable) and Fab fragments (antigen-binding) of immunoglobulins (i.e. antibodies).
