Dissolves in excess hydrofluoric acid to form silicon tetrafluoride gas. Can be eroded by hot concentrated phosphoric acid. Almost insoluble in water or other acids. Odorless. Odorless. Interacts with molten alkalis to form soluble silicates. Irritating.
