MSE PRO™ Sodium Salicylate
The MSE PRO™ Sodium salicylate is a metabolite of acetylsalicylic acid and acts by inhibiting NFκB and reducing oxidative stress. In rat studies, this agent has the ability to protect against glutamate-induced neurotoxicity. Like aspirin, sodium salicylate is an anti-inflammatory compound that binds and inhibits IKKβ. Sodium salicylate has been shown to reduce ATP binding both in vitro and in vivo. It is also an inhibitor of c-Jun and Cox-2 and an activator of p38. Large amounts of sodium salicylate can cause temporary hearing loss and tinnitus. Treatment of the lateral amygdala nucleus with sodium salicylate alters tone and excitability, leading to overactivity in the auditory cortex. Its ability to attenuate intracellular-Finkel?Biskis?Jinkins murine osteogenic sarcoma virus (c-fos) expression and hippocampal region δ-FosB protein affects spatial memory and learning.

Applications:
Can be used to induce tinnitus, hypersensitive-like behavior and direct fusion with amygdala in rats to detect regional field potentials. Tinnitus is induced and determined by prepulse inhibition behavior (PPI). To determine the inhibitory effects on learning and memory by Morris water maze testing and subsequent gene expression studies related to auditory responses in the rat dorsal hypothalamus cortex.
