MSE PRO™ Urease
The MSE PRO™ Urease is an enzyme that primarily catalyzes the breakdown of urea into carbon dioxide and ammonia. Urease is a metalloenzyme found in a wide variety of organisms, and catalyzes the hydrolysis of urea mainly by nickel ions as cofactors. Urease is found in a wide variety of microorganisms, plants and animals and plays an important biological function. Nickel ions form complexes with specific sites of enzyme proteins to form active centers. Urea binds to the urease active center and is stably bound through hydrogen bonding and charge interactions. Urease breaks down the bound urea into carbon dioxide and ammonia. This process involves co-catalysis by metal ions and groups.

Applications:
Urease can be used as a measure of the concentration of urea in the urine, which can be used for renal function assessment and urinalysis. It can help to understand biological processes such as ammonia metabolism and the nitrogen cycle, and is used in experiments in biochemistry and biotechnology.
