Product details

Zirconium crucibles have high melting point of 1855°C (3371°F) and excellent corrosion resistance to alkalis, acids, salt water and other agents (except hot concentrated acid). Zirconium crucible is often used as a cost-effective replacement to conventional platinum labware due to their similar thermochemical properties. Zirconium crucible is widely used for high temperature applications such as metal and salt melting. It is ideal for highly-corrosive fusion processes (lithium and sodium salt fusions) in analytical chemistry and chemical processing.

Powder processing is recommended for the best fusion results. MSE Supplies offer a variety of balling milling equipment and accessories for powder processing.

Standard Products and Specifications

Material: Zirconium 702 (Zr+Hf >99.2%)

Recommend use temperature: 500-600 °C. Heating at higher temperature may damage the crucible and shorten its life time.

Recommend to use under inert gas. Use under air will cause the oxidation and shorten the crucible life time.

Zirconium Crucible dimensions can be customized upon request. The dimensions listed above are for reference only. Please contact us if you need tight tolerance. Crucibles are considered as consumables which are not covered by warranty.

Zirconium Crucible Covers are available for purchase at an additional cost.

Notes for use

  • Don't exceed 900 °C for fusion applications
  • A dark oxide layer will form when the crucible is used under air. If necessary, use fine zircon sand to clean the crucible
