SKU: OLIS-1.4T Magnet
OLIS DeSa 1.4 Tesla Permanent Magnet for MCD, MCPL, and More
The OLIS 1.4 Tesla magnet for MCD (Magnetic Circular Dichroism) and MCPL (Magnetic Circular Polarized Luminescence) does not require electricity or cooling!
Patented by DeSa in 2006 as a “Sample Holder with Intense Magnet Field,” the affordable magnet costs nothing to operate, so MCD and MCPL could be done daily. Extremely lightweight (2.5 kg) and allows reversible field work to be practical. (Did you know what all molecules have an MCD signal, not just chiral ones?)
Reliable. Simple. Successful!
Features:
- Designed to house a 1 cm² cuvette
- Can be used in every CD spectrophotometer
- Offered as an accessory, just as a Peltier cell holder may be used, for the OLIS DSM CDs, Jasco CDs, and all other models
- Lightweight and contains a small footprint. Traditionally, MCD experiments require large, expensive electromagnets (often cryogenically cooled), coupled with special MCD spectrophotometers
Applications:
In biochemistry, Magnetic Circular Dichroism (MCD) is used predominantly in studies of metalloproteins or other substances containing metal ions.
- Determination of a metal center oxidation state and spin state
- Effects of inhibitors/substrate/mutations on the electronic and magnetic properties of the metal center(s)
- Detecting of ligands on ferric heme centers
- Quantification of tryptophan content in regular proteins
