Freezing Point Osmometry Analytical Service
SKU: FPO001
Overview
The Freezing Point Osmometer is a type of osmometer that determines the osmolality of various solutions and body fluids based on the principle of freezing point depression. There is a linear relationship between the molar concentration of a solution's osmotic pressure and the degree of freezing point depression.
The instrument induces crystallization in solutions primarily through two methods: vibration and dual-needle techniques.
- Vibration Method: This method induces crystallization without direct contact with the sample, eliminating the possibility of sample contamination and providing more stable test results.
- Dual-Needle Method: During testing, a metal probe or dual-needle comes into contact with the sample, which may cause cross-contamination and result in less consistent test results
Sample Requirements
- The pH must not be lower than 4, as a pH below this level can damage the instrument.
- The sample must reach its freezing point to measure osmolality. The device's detection range is 0–2000 mOsm/kg, corresponding to a maximum measurable freezing point depression of approximately -4°C.
