Overview
In-situ Electron Backscatter Diffraction (EBSD) enables real-time observation and analysis of changes in the crystal structure and orientation of materials under various environmental conditions, such as temperature variations and different pressures.
Sample Requirement
Basic requirements for samples suitable for direct EBSD data collection: Samples should be able to produce Kikuchi diffraction patterns that are recognizable and accurately calibrated by the computer. They should have a flat, clean surface with no residual stress, good conductivity, and appropriate dimensions. For data acquisition and processing, information on the phases in the sample, crystal structure, atomic occupancy, element types, and crystallographic data (such as a crystallography database, ICCD, or Pearson's Handbook, as well as PDF cards for XRD calibration) should be provided. If the sample does not meet the requirements for direct testing, appropriate sample preparation methods must be chosen.
Sample preparation guidelines:
- Metal samples: Mechanical polishing + chemical etching (for high hardness, high atomic number materials); Mechanical polishing + electrolytic polishing (for pure metals/alloys with fine secondary phases).
- Metal matrix composites: Same as above, or argon ion polishing (polishing area typically around 800*800 microns).
- Ceramic samples: Mechanical polishing or argon ion polishing.
Heating, tensile, and compressive modes are available, with a maximum temperature of 900°C and a maximum force of 5000N.
The test surface should be clearly marked. If a specific area needs to be located, please attach SEM or optical images indicating the precise location.
When sending samples, ensure they are securely fixed, and the test surface should not touch any surface to avoid scratches!
* Note: Data analysis service is not included in the list prices.
