Infrared reflectance/emissivity/diffuse reflectance testing

Overview

Wavenumber range: 400-7800 cm⁻¹, featuring an integrating sphere accessory, with capabilities for measuring transmittance (via integrating sphere), reflectance/specular reflection, reflectance/diffuse reflection (using integrating sphere), and emissivity.

A variety of reflectance testing condition are available, allowing for either specular or diffuse reflection measurements as required. An integrating sphere can also be added to minimize reflection losses. The choice of method should be carefully selected based on the sample’s properties. Emissivity is calculated as 1 - Transmittance - Reflectance.

Sample Requirement

• Specular Reflection Testing Conditions: The sample should be highly uniform, flat, and smooth.

• Thin Film Samples: For thick film samples, specular reflection is suitable for flat and uniform surfaces, while diffuse reflection is recommended for rough or uneven surfaces. For ultrathin samples, since the penetration depth for specular reflection cannot be adjusted, it may lead to substrate penetration, affecting the test data. In this case, it is advisable to consult for specialized testing.

• Bulk/Thin Film Samples: The sample size should be a minimum of 2 x 2 cm and a maximum of 5 x 5 cm (around 3 x 3 cm is recommended). For reflectance testing only, the minimum sample size is 0.5 x 0.5 cm.

• Powder Samples: Only diffuse reflection is applicable. The sample should be at least 50 mg with uniform particle size. For lightweight samples, such as carbon materials, the amount may be reduced to 25 mg.
