Applications:

The phosphate group can be used as a blocking function to prevent the 3'-5' exonuclease activity of some polymerases. Cut from the vector, the phosphate group is retained at the 3' end of the oligonucleotide. It does not require any changes in the oligonucleotide synthesis and deprotection scheme.
