MSE PRO™ 4(5)-Methylimidazole

The MSE PRO™ 4(5)-Methylimidazole belongs to the group of heterocyclic aromatic compounds consisting of an imidazole ring with a methyl group attached at the 4(5) position and is corrosive. It is obtained by the reaction of acetone aldehyde, acetaldehyde and ammonia. The compound is an important intermediate in the synthesis of many organic compounds and has been used as a reagent in the synthesis of a wide variety of organics. It also has potential medical and industrial applications in the manufacture of spices, and is also used as a catalyst in the production of polymers and other materials, as a curing agent for epoxy resins, as the main ingredient in the drug cimetidine, and in the synthesis of antimicrobials, among others. It is slightly soluble in water but soluble in most organic solvents.
