The MSE PRO™ Actin is a protein involved in the conversion of chemical energy into mechanical work.ATP is an important component of actin. Actin is a key component of muscle myofibrils and binds to the heavy myosin (HMM) portion of myosin filaments to form highly viscous actin. Actin is characterized by its hyperprecipitation with myosin, its activation of the myosin ATPase at low ionic strengths, and its depolymerization, i.e., loss of viscosity, upon addition of ATP at high ionic strengths. By the addition of neutral salts at neutral or slightly alkaline pH, actin is reversibly converted to the viscous polymeric fiber form of F-actin.
