Nanostructured MnO2  can decompose H+ or GSH in TME and enhance T1-MR imaging contrast. They can also increase oxygen levels, aiding in cancer therapies. They have been demonstrated to be excellent drug loading/delivery systems to load high quantities of therapeutic agents, whose release may be precisely controlled by tuning the shell structures or coatings.
