The MSE PRO™ IPTG is an isolactose analog and is an extremely potent inducer. It is therefore capable of inducing the expression of proteins corresponding to genes downstream of the lactose manipulator.IPTG induces the synthesis of an amino-terminal fragment of β-galactosidase from the DNA segment of the vector lac manipulator, which is intragenetically complementary (α-complementary) to the defective β-galactosidase encoded by the host cell. Soluble in water and ethanol.

Applications:
Isopropylthiogalactose is used in cloning experiments requiring induction of β-galactosidase activity, blue-white screening of recombinant bacterial colonies, and is widely used to induce expression of recombinant proteins in E. coli.
