The MSE PRO™ Mycophenolic acid, also known as mecophenolic acid, is a potent IMPDH inhibitor, an immunosuppressant that inhibits the de novo synthesis of purine nucleotides by inhibiting inosine monophosphate dehydrogenase and prevents the formation of XMP and GMP. Also an active metabolite of immunosuppressive drugs used to prevent rejection in organ transplantation. Soluble in methanol and ethanol, slightly soluble in ether and chloroform, insoluble in benzene and toluene, almost insoluble in cold water.

Used to select animal cells that can express E. coli xanthine-guanine phosphoribosyltransferase gene. Inhibits cytokine-induced nitric oxide production. Blocks inosine monophosphate dehydrogenase in the guanosine monophosphate pathway.
