Formation and Sealing for Battery Case of Pouch Cell

Posted by Chia-yu Chen on

MSE Supplies provides both standard and custom-made products and solutions to meet customer's specific requirements for battery manufacturing. For pouch cells fabrication, we offer various equipment for electrode sheet preparation, cell assembly and battery case formation and sealing.

Pouch cell consists of repeated stacks of multiple layers components which are enclosed in an aluminum laminated film case. After electrode sheets preparation and cell assembly, the last step is case formation and sealing. Here is the process overview:

  • Prepare cell case on aluminum laminated film using case forming machine and place cell in the case.
  • Seal the case using top & side heat sealing machine.
  • Inject electrolyte into cell.
  • Seal the case using vacuum sealer.

MSE Supplies offers equipment for pouch cell case formation and sealing including case forming machine, top& side heat sealing machine and vacuum sealer.

Case Forming machine

MSE Supplies offers a Benchtop Pneumatic Aluminum Laminated Film Case Forming Machine.  It is widely used to prepare pouch cell case made of aluminum laminated film. If you need to customize maximum die size, please email us at sales@msesupplies.com.

Top & side heat sealing machine

MSE Supplies has Benchtop Pouch Cell Aluminum Laminated Film Case Top and Side Sealer. It is widely used to seal the side and top with tabs before electrolyte injunction. If you need to customize sealing size and width, please email us at sales@msesupplies.com

Vacuum Sealer

MSE Supplies also offers Glovebox Compatible Benchtop Heating Vacuum Sealer.  It can be used for pouch cell case top/side sealing, vacuum standing for the electrolyte diffusion and degassing, and vacuum sealing after electrolyte injection.

In recent pouch cell research article (Schmiegel et al. 2020), our Vacuum Sealer was used for pouch cell fabrication. In this study, the author incorporated a gas sampling port (GSP) in a commercial pouch cell for measuring gas formation and evaluated the cell setup for electrolyte additive research. This GSP setup is able to extract only small amount of gas without significantly influencing the cell performance.
