The MSE PRO™ D- Amino acid oxidase is a flavoprotein. D-amino acid oxidase extracted from pig liver has been extensively studied. The enzyme is separated from benzoate into stable crystalline complexes from which the holoenzyme and coenzyme can be prepared. Benzoate is readily exchanged with the substrate.D-amino acid oxidase oxidizes the D-amino acids in the presence of molecular oxygen to deaminate them to the corresponding α-keto acids: ^RCHNH2COOH+O2+H2O→RCOCOOH+NH3+H2O2.
