Applications

Hafnium Carbide (HfC) is a gray powder, with NaCl type cubic crystal structure. HfC has the highest melting point (3890°C) among known single compounds. Hafnium carbide has a high coefficient of elasticity, good electrical and thermal conductivity, a small coefficient of thermal expansion and good impact resistance. HfC is widely used in cemented carbide, aerospace, atomic energy, electronics, coatings, hard films and ultra-high temperature ceramics (UHTC). In the field of materials technology, HfC is the most important basic material for the manufacture of rocket nozzle throat liners and the nose cone parts of space rockets.
