MSE PRO™ MA-800 PEM Water Electrolyzer Stack, Max. Flow Rate 800 mL/min

The MA-series electrolyzer stacks are electrolytic hydrogen production equipment, developed by PEM technology. These stacks feature a multi-polar, multi-channel structure, enabling hydrogen production through the electrolysis of pure water. They offer advantages such as high current density, low electrolysis voltage, and high electrolysis efficiency.

Device Structure

Working Principle

The proton exchange membrane (PEM) only allows water and positive ions to cross between compartments and also serves as the electrolyte in the cell, eliminating the need for hazardous liquid electrolytes like concentrated potassium hydroxide. PEM water electrolysis splits pure deionized water (H2O) into its constituent parts, hydrogen (H2) and oxygen (O2), on either side of the membrane. When a DC voltage is applied to the electrolyzer, water fed to the anode (oxygen electrode) is oxidized to oxygen and protons, while electrons are released. The protons (H+) pass through the PEM to the cathode (hydrogen electrode), where they meet electrons from the other side of the circuit and are reduced to hydrogen gas. The two reactions that occur in the cell are as follows:

2H2O→4H++4e+O2

2H++2e→H2

Thus, the only possible components of the streams are hydrogen, oxygen, and water moisture, as shown in the figure below.

Important Notes

  1. Ensure the electrode connections are correct.
  2. Electrolytic water must be deionized or secondary distilled water, using water that does not meet these standards will cause irreparable damage to the electrolytic tank.
  3. The electrolytic cell should not be left drained for an extended period. If the cell is removed, a small amount of deionized or secondary distilled water should be injected into it.

Product Advantages

  • Produces hydrogen by electrolyzing pure water (alkaline additives are forbidden), ensuring no corrosion, no pollution, and high hydrogen purity.
  • Low unit cell voltage, low electrolyzer cell resistance, and minimal heat generation.
  • Lower power consumption and higher electrolysis efficiency.
  • Zero pole distance with a high-activity PEM catalytic electrode group.
  • Excellent mass transfer and heat transfer performance with a repolarized multi-cell structure.
  • Superior performance in electrochemical properties, corrosion resistance, and resistance to passivation due to carefully selected multi-polar electrolytic cell materials.
  • Complete and reliable electrical automatic control system.
  • Excellent sealing performance.
