MSE PRO™ Pyronin Y
The MSE PRO™ Pyronin Y is a dye that stains RNA red, shows up as a red band during electrophoresis, and forms fluorescent complexes with double-stranded nucleic acids (especially RNA), allowing semi-quantitative analysis of cellular RNA. Has been shown to accumulate in mitochondria of living cells. At low concentrations, it inhibits cell growth, causing it to arrest in the G1 phase, and at high concentrations, it arrests cells in the G2 and S phases. Soluble in water and alcohol, solution is red, insoluble in ether.

Applications:
Used for gonococcal staining. Used in combination with methyl green for nucleic acid staining in paraffin sections. In addition, Pyrotin Y has been used to measure RNA in flow cytometry. for Unna Pappenheim staining to show RNA (red) against DNA (green). Also used for bacterial staining
