Background
SOX11 is a nuclear transcription factor located at 2P25.3, which is mainly related to embryonic neural development. It contains two major functional domains, the HMG DNA-binding domain at the N-terminus and the trans-activation domain at the C-terminus. The expression of SOX11 is critical for the embryonic nervous system and tissue remodeling. Sox11 is normally expressed during the development of the human embryonic nervous system and is required for neurite outgrowth and the existence of neurons. SOX11 is mainly expressed in the brain at 18-25 weeks of gestation. Outside the CNS, SOX11 was mainly expressed at the junction of epithelial and mesothelial tissue. SOX11 is not expressed in normal adult tissues. SOX11 is overexpressed in most mantle cell lymphomas, including the rare cyclin D1 negative cases. SOX11 is currently mainly used to identify mantle cell lymphoma.
